What is Bibolé?

Bibolé is an emotional feeling of passionate love. Being bibolé of someone is having a strong feeling of deeper love towards that person; it is a special feeling, thus unique. Each look of the brand depicts that unique feeling.

The Bibolé Brand Story

As narrated in The Odyssey Of Bibolé, the term “bibolé” has been introduced to the world in 1994, in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire. The term has been used mainly in love relationships, and it has been associated with the seven stages of the “crystallization” phenomenon mentioned by the French author Stendahl in his book “De L’Amour, 1822.”

Bibolé, as a clothing brand, has been created by Christos Vodounou to design the wardrobe of the story The Odyssey Of Bibolé. If that story turns into a film today, the collections could be used as wardrobe in the film.

The founder: Christos Vodounou

Growing up in Abidjan, fashion was always a major part of my life. I was always surrounded by fashion, whether in the neighborhood or in school. Even though school uniforms were required, it was common to tailor-make your uniform with the help of a tailor. We loved clothes with colors, and we never discriminated any particular color. There was no separation of clothing colors between male and female, every color was genderless for us, which gave us freedom to express ourselves through clothing with confidence.

Through The Odyssey Of Bibolé I wanted to document the history of the term bibolé and share the unique and powerful story associated to it, but I also wanted to design a clothing line that has his branches entangled into the roots of the term bibolé.
